Perinteinen Jokivalkeat-tapahtuma järjestettiin 8.11.2008 Lapin yliopiston taiteiden tiedekunnan, Arktista vimmaa -elokuva- ja mediafestivaalin sekä Rovaniemen kaupungin
kulttuuripalvelukeskuksen yhteistyönä. Teemana oli myyttinen ja arkinen matka joella. Joen ylittämistä, myyttiseen pohjolaan matkaamista ja shamaanin tiedonhakumatkaa tapahtumassa kuvastaa tulisen kotkan hahmo.
Paperilyhtyveistokset ja Lyseonpuiston lukion oppilaiden tuliveistokset muodostivat kokonaisuuden,
josta piirtyi esityksen aikana shamaanin ääriviivat ja kotkan silhuetti.
Lapin yliopiston taiteiden tiedekunnan tuliveistoksissa kuvasivat puolestaan arkista matkaa joella.
Veistosten aiheena olivat joella käytetyt kulkuvälineet: vene, sukset, luistimet ja potkukelkka.
The theme of the Riverlighs was the cycle of the year, fire eagle, mythical river leading to the North and river as environment for everyday life. Large scale paper lanterns formed a figure of a shaman and a silhouette of an eagle. The performance told about shaman´s trip to North as an eagle. Upper secondary school students from Lyseonpuiston lukio made sculptures connected to the same subject. The sculptures made by university students presented vehicles used in river. There was shapes of a boat, skies, skate and a kick sled in the event. Riverlights celebrates the winter, thus there was also a lantern sculpture inspired by the form of a snowflake. Riverlight was organized by University of Lapland, Arktista vimmaa, and culture office in the town of Rovaniemi
